ADJUSTING TO A NEW WORLD

August 30 3:32 p.m. Saturday in Kenting has been interesting. I did laundry and then went for a walk. When I left my dorm by the back gate I decided to go right to see where it would take me and to my surprise not more then ad three minute walk and I was at the ocean, or I should say bay. It had a sign posted no swimming. However, I did walk along the shore and let the surf hit my feet. Way Cool!!! Afterwards I walked further down the road and ran into they main street which is Kending Road with all their tourist shops and night market items. They have several Seven 11 stores, a McDonald's and even a KFC. It is very hot here so I was only out for an hour and half and plan on going out when the sunsets and explore some more of the night life.

KENTING

August 28 On Tuesday meet my co-teacher Edward, and signed my contract. The closing ceremony was on Wednesday morning and received a certificate for participation. Afterwards took the high speed rail to Kaochung and then Edward and his girlfriend Fiona drove me to Kenting. Wednesday night arrived around 7 unload the car. Soda and Andy helped me make the beds. Then we all went for Thai food. They asked if I wanted to go to the night market but I politely bow out and went back to the dorm for much needed rest. Thursday I meet the principal Mrs. Lu and then she said for me to unpack my room and set up my dorm room. At lunch time Edward came and got me and the council person Charlie, Mrs. Lu, Edward, Fiano and myself went to Caesar Park. I was the guest. After lunch I took a nap which is standard here and then finished my room. At 4:30 went to Hengchun for necessities and dinner. I will begin work tomorrow at 8:00 I have not idea what they will want me to do.

Arrival to Taiwan

THE AMERICAN AND CANADIAN TEACHERS AT THE MINISTRY OF TAIWAN CEREMONY

NATIONAL ACADEMY FOR EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH

August 20,2008 Made it to Taiwan after a long journey from Columbus, Ohio. Left at 9:00 A.M. Saturday and arrived in Taipei, Taiwan Monday morning at 1:30 A.M. The flight out of L.A. International Airport was two hours late arriving and another 45 minutes until we were able to board. We left L.A. at 7:20 P.M. L.A. California time which was actually 10:20 P.M. Ohio Time.
The flight was 13 hours and 15 minutes and then we had to go through guarentine, then customs and then get our luggage. By the time we arrived at the National Accademy for Educational Research it was 2:00A.M. Monday Morning in Taiwan which made it Sunday afternoon in Ohio.
Since my arrival we have been in training and have gone to a Temple, and a street market. We also had an official opening ceremony with the officials from the Minister of Taiwan this week.

The Last Week in USA

August 11 My last Monday in the country which seems surreal. I got my international drivers license so that I can drive once I am comfortable with the country. I will probably get a scooter to get around from Kenting to other areas. Not sure! Oh my packing is really a challenge!!!!!
I am allowed 2 pieces of luggage each 50 lbs. The lbs is not the problem it is the amount of space I have to pack all the things I need for a year. Shipping you would say, well, guess again a 10 lb box through US global international mail is $65 and UPS is $185. Back to the drawling board.
D-day is Saturday at 9:00am. Not much time left!
