HAGUPIT A BUST

9/23/08 HAGUPIT TYPHOON A BUST!!!!!!!!!!
As southern Taiwan braced for another typhoon HAGUPIT, the teachers were hoping for
a day off from school. Hagupit veered south in the bay and is heading for China. Just like back home in the United States where the teachers hope for a much needed snow day, but it does not happen. BUSTED!

A Walk Around Part of Kenting National Park

September 20, 2008 Saturday very hot and humid felt like 104 degrees fahrenheit so I stayed inside and read a book. However, this past Wednesday afternoon 9/17 after school a group of us went for a walk around the Kenting National Park. The pictures are of wild horses , a cow farm and my new Taiwan friends. Also on Wednesday night I got to ride a bike!!!! YEAH!!! They actually allowed me to ride a bike and wanted to make sure I would get hurt!! Unfortunatly, Fazz took me on uneven covered bricks which my tire got caught and I fell. I only scrape my hand maybe a 1/16 inch scrape and you would have thought I had a HUGE PUNCHER WOUND! NOT!! The people are very protective of me and are always afraid I am going to get hurt. It is hard to believe that I have been in Taiwan for five weeks. The time is going by fast. Of course I miss my family and friends but I am experiencing a once in a life time opportunity. The other thing I miss is ICE and ICE COLD DRINKS. Sorry no ice in your drinks here!
As for actually teaching I am doing very little however, I am in charge of the English Village which is going to be a replicate of places in the United States. Right now I am working on a post office, coffee shop, and souvenir shop which is to open in December. Next Thursday I meet the designers to go over plans and what is need to supply these
places. In addition to set up the curriculum for the entire village. Well, until I blog on again have a GREAT WEEKEND AND WEEK!!

SINLAKU TYPHOON

Monday September 15 SINLAKU TYPHOON partially ruin my weekend in Kaoushung because we were stuck inside on and off during the day because of high winds. So I did not get to see any sites to take pictures. However, I will go back later. The pictures attached are a three minute walk from my dorm and the water and wind were still strong today. All the beaches have been closed do to the typhoon. On Wednesday night the school had a welcoming dinner which there were 25 different dishes served. When the Taiwanese ask you to go out for dinner be prepared to eat numerous amount of food and many courses. You will be amazed at how much food the serve.
The last pictures are from behind the branch school where I climbed the mountain behind the school at Shadao.

First week at School

September 5,2008 The first week at Kenting Elementary School has been very interesting. First off the schedule is done back words. My schedule of teaching on paper was with Friday first, then Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday, and then Monday. I am at two different schools where the classes are sometimes combined and other times separate. For example one day I have 4,5,6 grade together and the next time I have 5th grade separate from 6th grade.
The pictures are one of Kending Elementary School students, sunset on the southern west coast in a small fishing community and a temple in the same town.
