Day 73 in Taiwan

October 26, 2008 Survived two days of biking. Yesterday went to look for the waterfalls but never quite made it to them because of running out of daylight. Went 20 km yesterday and 18 km today in a big bike event in Kenting. There were 5000 bicyclist who some went the 18km and others went 30 km. I biked from Kenting to the Eluanbi which is the southern most tip on the East coast. Thursday and Friday there was a general meeting for the English Village where teachers, the English Counsel, and Pingtung County Government were here. We went to the East Coast to Fongchueisha where the wind blows really hard and the sand builds up the side of the mountain. Some times it even covers the road. Also we went on a night hike in the Shedding Park of Kenting National Park where a snake slithered in front of my feet and surprisingly I did not scream and run. Yes it was scary and I am not sure if it was poisonous because our guide was only talking in Taiwanese. On the hike I saw the biggest earthworm, variety of snakes, a human face spider, frogs, and mushrooms that glow in the dark.

Eagles and Biking

10/12/08 Sunday afternoon the four big things this week were MOE (Ministry of Education)
visit, 6th graders from Taipei visit, biked half way up a mountain, and the eagles. The MOE
were here Tuesday to talk to me and evaluated my teaching. On Wednesday the 6th graders had their graduation trip to Kenting and stopped here to visit. I was in charge of teaching them how to write a postcard and mail the postcard in correlation to the English Village I am working on for Kenting. The big accomplishment and excitement was I biked half way up Dajien Shan which is one of the pictures. My goal is to bike and not walk my bike to the top and then go down the other side to Chuannfansh, then back to Kenting. The other excitment and amazing thing was I went to Lide and saw the Eagles which gathering around 10/10 in the Kenting National Park before they head south. It is amazing to see them and the way the swarm together in circles in every which and never collied. The pictures are of the Eagles which I tried to get good pictures but did not good pictures but you will get the general idea.

PAST TWO WEEKS

October 5, 2008 Spent the day at the beach which is hard to believe since at home I would probably have layers of clothes on right now. The past two weeks have been very busy. The week of September 22 I was with the Business Weekly journalist and photographer for part of a day. I was also in a meeting for the English Village which I designing the shops and lesson for the village. There were 24 people who spoke limited English or none and I was to answer their questions which was difficult because of the language problem. Last weekend was typhoon Jangma which I have posted pictures of the typhoon at the beach. Monday there was no school for students but the teachers had to be here. Thursday and Friday was trying to decide on my new wheels which is a brand new bike which is also included in pictures. I even road the bike home from Hengchun which is a little over 5 miles from Kenting. I stop at a 7/Eleven for a break and this family from Pingtung City came over to talk me because I was from USA. The next thing I knew there were 20 people around me asking all types of questions. WOW! I felt like a celebrity. Yesterday I went to the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium, and then when I got back to Kenting I went to the Kenting Youth Activity Center which is right behind my dorm and I only get to see the parking lot so I want to see the rest of the Center. It is a traditional Fukiense style and traditional Chinese residence. From there I went on a walk around Frog Rock. The pictures are of Jangma, my new wheels, the Aquarium, the Youth Center and the walk around Frog Rock.
